Poster Printing

Thanks to the Howard Hughes Medical Institute and Trinity College, the Chemistry Department now has a large format printer!

The printer is available to all (including undergraduate) researchers working in the French Family Science Center for the purpose of presenting their scientific research.

The cost of each printed poster is $25. The preferred payment method is a fund code.

How Do I Submit My Poster for Printing?

Once you have your poster prepared, email a PDF version of it to poster@chem.duke.edu and include the following information:

Name:
Poster Title:
Desired Poster Size:
PI or Sponsor Name:
Fund Code:

How Long Do I Have to Wait For My Poster?

While the process for poster submission and printing is being refined, please allow at least 2 days for your poster to be printed.

During times of anticipated high use, we may require that you allow up to 4 days for your poster to be printed. So if you are going to a national or regional meeting and you know others who are going, it is in your best interest to complete and submit your file early.

If you've prepared your poster at the last minute or otherwise can't wait this long to get your poster, consider using PhDPosters.com.

How Do I Prepare My Poster?

Here are some tips for creating your poster. Other good tips can be found at PhDPosters.com.

Software

Probably the easiest way for most people to create a poster is with MS PowerPoint. But it can be done just as easily in the free OpenOffice's Impress (which can read/write PowerPoint files, too). A general purpose power-point faq is at www.pptfaq.com. See also huge-powerpoint-files-and-how-to-avoid-them Poster-specific how-to is at phdposters.com. Save yourself a headache and start with a template from www.posterpresentations.com

Or, you may prefer to use a desktop publishing or vector graphics application such as Adobe Illustrator or the free applications Scribus or InkScape.

Page Size

As your application allows, you should select one of the following page sizes of

  • A0
  • C0 with at least 0.25in margin
  • Custom size not to exceed 36in on at least one side (e.g., 36×48)

Pictures and Figures

Pictures and figures should be at least 300dpi. Anything less can become grainy when printed.
